For the first time the fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa (he’s, like, a totally important designer) has released a perfume, Alaïa Paris, and encapsulates everything Alaïa is known for.
Ever associated with embodying feminine sexuality, Alaïa’s clothes sculpt the body.
Working with Marie Salamagne from Firmenich perfumers, Alaïa set about to create a modern and refreshing perfume with ‘the scent of cold water falling on hot chalk’. The end perfume certainly has these notes but is also more complicated that that.
Top Notes: Pink Pepper, Airy tones
Middle Notes: Freesia, Peony
Base Notes: Musk, Animal tones
This is a perfume that morphs and matures with wear, phasing through each level of scent which is each as pleasing as the next.
The bottle was designed by Alaïa’s friend and fellow designer Martin Szekely who wanted the bottle to become ‘a fetish object dedicated to women.’ The translucent black glass features the famous Alaïa lazer-cut pattern that first appeared on the leatger corset in the 1990s. the cap of the bottle is made of zamak and rose gold and shaped to resemble a spool of thread. The packaging features black and the famous Alaïa nude.
Alaïa Paris EDP is available now from Harrods, from August 2nd in flagship stores and nationwide from August 17th. The EDP is available in three sizes: 30ml(£42), 50ml(£62) and 100ml(£85) as well as a shower gel (£27) and body lotion (£30).
